Why do our bodies seek to destroy us? Why are our brains wired to fire just the wrong synapses at just the wrong time to say and do things we know better than to say or do? Is self-destruction built into our species?
Are we a mistake nature made centuries ago – one it’s been trying to correct for all these years as we persist, stumbling, hurting ourselves and destroying everything in our path? What’s to become of us like this – simultaneously destructive and preserving, with an unstoppable will to live and an incurable instinct for finding happiness in what is sure to cause us pain?
